Ingredients

1 pound ground chicken

1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped

1/2 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)

4 whole wheat burger buns

Lettuce, tomato, and avocado for topping

Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated, but avoid over-mixing.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty about 3/4 inch thick. Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for about 20-30 minutes to help them firm up.

Cook the Burgers: Heat a large skillet or grill over medium heat and add a splash of olive oil. Once hot, add the chicken patties to the skillet. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the burgers are golden brown.

Toast the Buns (Optional): During the last few minutes of cooking, you can toast the burger buns in the same skillet until slightly golden and crispy.

Assemble the Burgers: Place a cooked chicken patty on each toasted bun. Add lettuce, tomato slices, and avocado on top. Optionally, drizzle with your favorite sauce or spread.

Serve: Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately, perhaps with sweet potato fries or a side salad for a complete meal.
