Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into quarters

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup crushed pineapple, drained (optional)

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

1/4 cup maple syrup (for drizzling)

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Fresh fruit (for serving, e.g. bananas, strawberries)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Bread: Place the quartered Sweet Hawaiian rolls into the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut evenly over the rolls.

Mix the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar until fully combined.

Assemble: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls, ensuring that each piece is soaked through. Gently press down with a spatula to submerge them fully.

Refrigerate: If time allows, cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight) to let the rolls absorb the custard mixture.

Bake: Remove the dish from the refrigerator if prepped overnight. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. A knife inserted in the middle should come out clean.

Serve: Drizzle with maple syrup, and dust with powdered sugar before serving. Garnish with fresh fruit for a colorful touch.

Enjoy!: Serve warm and relish in this sweet, tropical twist on a classic French toast.
