Wontons have a rich history in Asian cuisine, particularly in Chinese culture. Originating from the Guangdong Province, wontons are often associated with comfort food and family gatherings. Traditionally, they are prepared as savory dumplings, filled with a mix of meat and vegetables, and served in soups or fried. However, over the years, the wonton has transcended its original savory confines, evolving into a canvas for creative fillings, including sweet variations.

Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp cinnamon

24 wonton wrappers

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Fresh berries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Place a small spoonful (about 1 tablespoon) of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each wrapper.

Wet the edges of the wonton wrappers with a drop of water. Fold the wrappers over to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Make sure there are no air bubbles inside.

In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Carefully place a few wontons in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid crowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown, flipping once for even cooking.

Once cooked, remove the wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Allow the wontons to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Serve warm, garnished with fresh berries if desired.
