Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast

½ cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F

¼ cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp salt

For the Filling:

2 cups apples, peeled and diced (preferably Granny Smith)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2-3 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the warmed milk, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

      - Add the melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually incorporate the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

        - Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

          Make the Filling:

            - In a bowl, mix together the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter, vanilla extract, and optional nuts. Set aside.

              Assemble the Rolls:

                - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 16x12 inches.

                  - Spread the apple filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.

                    - Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal it and cut into 12 equal slices.

                      Second Rise:

                        - Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, leaving some space between them. Cover and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.

                          Bake the Rolls:

                            - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

                              Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:

                                - In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until well combined. If the frosting is too thick, add milk a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

                                  Frost the Rolls:

                                    - Once the rolls have cooled slightly, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top. Allow it to melt slightly into the warm rolls for extra deliciousness.

                                      Serve:

                                        - Enjoy your irresistible apple cinnamon rolls warm, fresh out of the oven!
