Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup beef broth

1 cup cream of mushroom soup

4 medium potatoes, sliced thinly

2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to preheat.

Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Shape the Patties: Form the meat mixture into oval burger patties, about ½ inch thick. Place them on a greased baking sheet.

Sear the Patties (Optional): In a skillet over medium-high heat, sear the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. This step enhances the flavor but can be skipped if you're short on time.

Layer the Dish: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, arrange the thinly sliced potatoes on the bottom. Sprinkle the mixed vegetables evenly over the potatoes.

Add the Patties: Place the hamburger patties on top of the vegetables and potatoes.

Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, combine the beef broth and cream of mushroom soup. Pour this mixture evenly over the entire dish.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the patties are cooked through.

Add the Cheese: In the last 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top and return to the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve and Garnish: Once done, remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm.
